Introduction to Aromasin 25mg Tablet

Aromasin 25mg tablet is an anticancer drug with the active ingredient Exemestane. It belongs to the medication class known as aromatase inhibitors. In postmenopausal women, it is used to treat hormone-dependent early breast cancer after completing 2-3 years of treatment with Tamoxifen. In addition, it also treats hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer.  Cancer is a disorder in which cells multiply in an uncontrolled and abnormal manner. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to Exemestane or any of the other ingredients of this medicine if you have not been through the menopause stage, or if you think you are pregnant or breastfeeding. 

Aromasin 25mg tablet is not recommended for adolescents and children under the age of 18. Inform your doctor before starting the treatment if you have problems with your liver or kidney or if you have a history of bone condition, as this medicine can make you lose mineral content and decrease its strength. Inform your doctor if you take any other medicine while under this treatment. Regular checking will be conducted to monitor the vitamin D level, if your level is below normal you will be given vitamin D. You need to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking recently before taking this medicine. Use effective birth control during the treatment with this medicine. 


Uses of Aromasin 25mg Tablet

  • Breast cancer

Therapeutic Effects of Aromasin 25mg Tablet

Exemestane inhibits the enzyme aromatase, which is responsible for the conversion of androgens (male hormones) to estrogen (female hormones). By inhibiting aromatase, Exemestane reduces the levels of estrogen in the body. This can stop or reduce the growth of different hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells, which depend on estrogen. 


Interaction of Aromasin 25mg Tablet with other drugs

Inform your healthcare provider about all your medicines, including prescribed medications, over-the-counter medicines, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products. Certain medications may interact such as Rifampicin, Carbamazepine, or phenytoin, and St. John Wort interacts with Aromasin 25mg and reduce effectiveness by causing undesirable side effects.

How to consume Aromasin 25mg Tablet

Swallow the tablet whole with water. The usual recommended dose is one tablet daily. Avoid chewing, breaking, or crushing it. Your physician will choose the dosage and administration frequency based on the medical condition because it differs for each person.

Side Effects of Aromasin 25mg Tablet

Side effects are unwanted symptoms produced by medication. Even though all medications cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

  • Lowered white blood cell (leukopenia)
  • Reduction of platelets in the blood
  • Allergic reaction
  • Difficulty in breathing 

Common

  • Numbness and hand pain (Carpal tunnel syndrome)

Word of Advice

It is advised to inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney diseases. Aromasin 25mg Tablet reduces levels of the estrogen hormone. You can have weaker bones that are more likely to break. Do not get pregnant or breastfeed. Use effective contraception throughout the treatment.

Q 1. Can Aromasin 25mg Tablet cause bone disease?

Aromasin 25mg Tablet can weaken your bones and increase your risk of fractures (a condition called osteoporosis). Your provider might ask you to do a bone mineral density (BMD) test while taking this medicine to ensure that your bones are healthy and strong.

Q 2. Will it affect my contraception or fertility?

Aromasin 25mg Tablet is generally given to you only if you have gone through menopause. However, some people find that they start to have periods again after taking this medicine. If this happens to you, it’s important to use reliable contraception. Talk to your doctor if your periods start again or if there is any chance that you maybe are pregnant. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy.

Aromasin 25mg Tablet is not approved for use in men, as it is specifically designed to treat hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Yes, Aromasin 25mg Tablet may interact with certain medications, including tamoxifen, estrogen-containing products, and certain antibiotics.
