Introduction to Axpero 5mg Tablet

Axpero 5mg tablet is an anticancer drug belonging to the class of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, containing the active ingredient Axitinib. It is used to treat advanced kidney cancer which is also known as renal cell carcinoma that originates in the cells of the kidney.

It is not recommended to undergo surgical procedures while on treatment with this drug due to the high risk of bleeding. Tell your physician before you undergo surgery or dental procedures. Get immediate medical attention if you experience itching, vision changes, confusion, or dizziness. This medicine may cause harm to an unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider before beginning this treatment if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby. It is advised for both men and women to follow proper contraceptive methods during and one week after the last dose of this drug. Avoid breastfeeding your baby while you are on the treatment as this drug can impact the growth and development of the baby by passing into the breast milk. If you get mouth sores, weight loss, and have itchy skin, consult with your doctor.

This drug is not recommended for adolescents and children under the age of 18. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience shortness of breath, chest pain, or worsening cough. During the treatment, your doctor may periodically monitor your white blood cell counts, platelets, blood sugar, electrolytes, and kidney parameters to prevent serious complications. Some GI symptoms may also develop during the treatment such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and constipation. It is necessary to report to your doctor right away.

Therapeutic Effects of Axpero 5mg Tablet

It belongs to the category of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which interferes with the growth of blood vessels inside the cancer cells. It also acts against a protein called receptor tyrosine kinases to interrupt cell signalling, ultimately stopping the growth and spread of cancer cells.


Interaction of Axpero 5mg Tablet with other drugs

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, nutritional or vitamin supplements, and herbal products. Certain medications may interact with Axpero 5mg tablet and reduce effectiveness by causing undesirable side effects.

How to consume Axpero 5mg Tablet

Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of Axpero 5mg tablet based on the disease condition. Always take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended starting oral dose is 5 mg twice daily. Take the tablet at the same time every day, with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. Swallow the whole tablet with water. If you forgot to take the tablet, simply take your next dose at the scheduled time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Word of Advice

Axpero 5mg tablet can make you feel dizzy and weak. Avoid driving or operating heavy machines if you experience dizziness, confusion, or tiredness while on treatment with this drug. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice may also increase drug plasma concentrations and should be avoided. Some formulations of axitinib may contain lactose as an inactive ingredient in which the body is unable to digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and dairy products. It can cause symptoms such as bloating, and abdominal pain. If you have lactose intolerance, inform your doctor before starting this therapy. It is advised to avoid high-fiber foods and drink lots of fluids if you have severe diarrhea.
