This device activates nerve fibers in the upper arm and sends signals to the brainstem. This process activates Conditioned Pain Modulation (CPM) system, resulting release of serotonin and norepinephrine hormones that alleviate the headache and pain.

Patients with severe cardiac or cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, and congestive heart failure should not use this device. Furthermore, a person using a pacemaker, hearing aid, or any other implantable medical device should not use Nerivio.
