Themixon-s 1.5gm injection is a combination medication containing the active components of ceftriaxone, an antibiotic from the cephalosporin group, and sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor with antibacterial properties. This combination is effective against various bacterial infections. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporins, or penicillins. It is not recommended for premature babies or newborns (up to 28 days old) with blood issues, jaundice, or those under calcium-containing medications. 

Before taking this medication, consult your healthcare provider if you had calcium-containing medications, antibiotic-related diarrhea, gut issues like colitis, liver or kidney issues, gallstones, kidney stones, anemia, following a low sodium diet, or experienced symptoms like rash, blistering, or high fever. Transparent communication with your doctor about your medical history and medications is vital for safely using these injections.

Sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, reduces resistance and enhances ceftriaxone's effectiveness against bacteria.

Side Effects of Themixon-s 1.5gm Injection

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all medicines cause side effects, not everyone gets them.

Serious:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rashes, itching, difficulty in breathing, fever)

  • Irregularities in your white blood cell count and platelet count
  • Loose stools or diarrhea
  • Alterations in liver function blood test
  • Injection site pain
  • Thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the vein)

Word of Advice

Themixon-s 1.5gm injection is recommended only in children of 1 year of age or older. You have been given this combination medication to treat bacterial infections, even in cases where resistance has developed. Complete the entire prescribed course, even if you begin to feel better. If you stop it early, the infection might return and become harder to treat because the bacteria could develop resistance to the medicine.

Be aware that diarrhea might occur as a side effect. You can minimize this by taking probiotics such as yogurt, other fermented foods, and dietary supplements alongside themixon-s 1.5gm injection. You must talk to your doctor if you notice bloody stools or experience abdominal cramps.

Remember to take the medication with food and drink plenty of fluids to prevent an upset stomach. If you experiance an itchy rash, swelling of the face, throat, or tongue or experience difficulty breathing while taking Themixon-s 1.5gm injection,  stop taking the medication and contact your doctor immediately.
