Background and Date of Approval

The U.S. FDA-approved Human C1-esterase to prevent hereditary angioedema on June 22, 2017. Human C1-esterase is an immunomodulator with an active ingredient called Human C1-esterase inhibitor. It belongs to the medication group known as complement inhibitors. The C1-esterase inhibitor is a naturally occurring human protein in the blood used to control inflammation and swelling.

Mechanism of Action of undefined

Human C1 esterase inhibits the complement system by binding to inactivate proteases which prevents an increase in vascular permeability. This regulates immune responses, preventing tissue damage and inflammation. Insufficient level of C1-esterase inhibitor in the bloodstream or malfunctioning C1-esterase inhibitor can lead to angioedema (swelling) with the symptoms of stomach pain, and swelling in hands, face, eyelids, lips, tongue, genitals, larynx, or feet.

Uses of undefined

Human C1-Esterase prevents hereditary angioedema in adults, adolescents, and children (six years or above) by increasing the amount of C1-esterase inhibitors in the bloodstream.
